It’s that time of the year when we look to the voting membership
to nominate candidates for the annual CCCSFAA awards.
New this year is the “Making a Difference” award. This award is being
bestowed in memory of Maureen Martinez, former Financial Aid Director at San
Bernardino College. Maureen was a firm believer that we could make a difference
in the lives of others and she unselfishly dedicated her time to assisting students
overcome obstacles in pursuit of an education. At Maureen’s memorial service
we heard several testimonies from students who Maureen had helped. One such student
talked about how Maureen spent hours assisting him with his reading skills. He
went on to say that he attributed his success in life to Maureen.
I’m sure that there are many more stories like this one about Maureen.
I ask for your help to identify financial aid staff that give unselfishly of
themselves to help students. Please take the time to recognize them by nominating
