FASFA Paper vs. Web Filers Report
NASFAA published the Department of Education's electronic announcement on July 17, 2002 with a report about the number of FAFSAs
listed by school code and the source of the application. The reporting period was January 1, 2002 to July 7, 2002 for the 2002-2003
academic year.
I am a strong advocate for FAFSA On The Web (FOTW) and my staff "strongly recommends" FOTW as College of the Canyons
preferred method of filing the FAFSA. I thought it would be interesting to see how my college compared to the other colleges within
my region by type of FAFSA application filed - paper vs. web. The first task was finding all the federal school codes for each college,
then scouring the 184 page report in search of each college's data about their student filers.
Upon completion of my report for my region, I sent a copy to CCCSFAAA President Joaquin Jimenez, who replied "I wonder if
the Chancellors' Office could do this for EVERY COLLEGE IN EVERY CCCSFAAA REGION." Next thing I knew I had raised my hand and
volunteered to take my report one step further and generate this information for every region in our association. Here is the report!
I suggest that you be nosey! It's great to see how your college compares to other colleges within your own region. But, take a
look at the bigger picture statewide by viewing other regions reports too. Some colleges, and regions, are doing much better at
promoting the FAFSA On The Web than others.
