Index of Updates: January | February | March
January 2005
This month is almost over so I thought I better get my monthly message
out to the membership as promised. Like many of you, my staff and I are
busy giving financial aid presentations at the local high schools and community
events. On February 12th we will hold our “Cash for College” event
and we have invited our local legislators. In our correspondence to the
legislators, we also let them know that we were available to assist them
with the workshops
that they plan to host for their constituents. I encourage all of you to
build a relationship with your local legislators.
On February 1st and 2nd we will hold our first CCCSFAAA Executive Board
meeting. This year we are inviting members from each of our regions that
have an interest in attending our Board meetings and learning more about
the association. I am hopeful that it will spark interest in being involved
with association activities or committees. Our first guests will be Mary
Spady from Region 1 and Iris Fernandez from Region 7. If you are interested
in attending a future Board meeting let your regional representative know.
So far I have received 18 volunteer forms. The names of those volunteers
have been forwarded to the appropriate committee chairs. If you simply forgot
to send me your volunteer forms…it’s not too late. Remember that
our association is dependent on volunteers. In other words, WE NEED YOU.
The volunteer form is available on our web site, www.cccsfaaa.org, as an
online form.
Soon we will be planning the dates and locations of our Spring Training
events.
More information will be forthcoming.
On another note, many of you quickly responded to the news about Maureen
Martinez with your thoughts and prayers. Members even assisted the staff
at San Bernardino Valley College by helping students. All of your efforts
are so appreciated. The loss of Maureen Brady Martinez has left a big void
in our lives and especially for those that worked so closely with her on
a daily basis. At the request of the family, two memorial scholarships have
been established. You may send your contributions to the following address:
San Bernardino Valley College Foundation
Maureen Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund
701 S. Mount Vernon Ave.
San Bernardino, CA 92410
Look for my next message next month and for now…have a good Spring
term.
Susan
Jones, CCCSFAAA President
